For example, Lex Aura may be spitting "garbage" to you, it may come off as only sex with girls and alcohol, but I take as a love story and he's lost someone hella close to him so no he's drinking and fucking girls bcuz he's so damn hurt, and his lyrics could be for just one girl but his audience is millions of girls, so he could be wishing that he wants to do everything that he is doing to these girls with the one girl but he just can't... see that's my story... I picked that story just from what he is saying, I don't have a clue what his story really is but I saw in between the lines and...
... you can't just listen to what a rapper is saying, you have to listen to what is not being said in a literal way... you have to see in between the lines... and once you can be able to do that, I think it will help you tremendously as a producer as well bcuz, making a beat is easy and it's not worth shit, but making a story though music is what makes you a real music artist...
I get where both sides are coming from. Phantom is just simply stating the fact the a lot of rappers these days don't have a msg and spit garbage. BUT!!... Other rappers have msg in them that other just can't understand in one way or another. And other rappers may be spitting "garbage" to listeners but, in my case, a lot of that garbage such as hustling and fucking and flexing, is a reality for other listeners, so when I listen to Lex Aura, yeah he mumbles and he might be spitting "garbage" like drugs, hustling, and sex, but that's what he says in his lyrics is also my very own reality...
you obviously would make some volumes louder than others but while your mixing you want your volumes low. when you master then it will all sound normal because mastering means making it louder and increasing clarity.
and lol yall are arguing about rappers xD so I'll give my opinion about it. About language, i know (+or-) write english. But, listen to people talkin english, I do not understand hardly anything tbh so I have no experience in talking about rappers lyrics (message/substance). so I dont care much about rappers. I fuk wit producers and if i talk about some music the main thing that i say is about the producer. I do not care if rappers have message or substance, i look to the beat and how good it is. Im my soundcloud account i just follow producers X]
@Royal I may look like stupid bruv but i didn't catch the mixing :( .You said "start ALL your volumes halfway and work from there". I think some instruments has more volume than others and when i make a melodic set with various channels, i want that some instruments appear more than others, sometimes - instruments of low volume like Sam-1 pack. I have not seen sense in "start all volumes halfway" (NOT saying that some channels will START their volumes at MAX) I need you to explain me better :(
