@phantom rhythm is what these rappers are great at. Poetry you can find in Drake and Lil Wayne and Kendrick and etc etc. (Those were the first names that came to mind, but there is definitely a lot more)
.... other than having connections, them being different is why they blew up. Rap is not gonna be the same as how it used to be bcuz this world is constantly wanting new things. Music artists are just doing what the public wants. The people control everything. So don't hate the rappers, hate the people cuz they are the ones who are wanting all this shit. They wanted something new and different, artists tried it and the people loved it. Ask yourself this....
I can't deal with Thugger just cuz he's so damn obnoxious xD xD but I do listen to his lyrics from time to time and really do like his msgs in some of his songs. But in all honesty, rap has changed in some many ways and it hasn't changed in soany ways... the beats have changed, the flow has changed, the words have changed, the personalities have changed... but listen to the words! The msgs are the same! They are just said in different ways =) And tbh, you can't really say rap isn't rap anymore, you're just listening to the wrong people. The mainstream rappers are the "different" rappers...
... I created a picture and a story through my own imagination based off of his music. Music is a way to connect with others through similar situations, if you ain't going through a situation similar to what the artist is rapping/singing about then you're most likely not gonna be affected by it or you just might think it sucks.
