MIDI loops in an online library

Soundation’s online studio comes loaded with royalty-free MIDI loops that you can find in the Sound library. A MIDI loop is a repeating musical phrase that can be used with software instruments like Soundation’s Virtual instruments. Compared to audio loops, they are a lot more flexible since you can easily change the notes, key, tempo, and instrument.

What is MIDI?

MIDI stands for musical instrument digital interface and is a sort of language between computers, instruments, and audio equipment that enables them to communicate and sync up. It can be used in DAWs (digital audio workstations), like Soundation, for recording and sequencing music with Virtual instruments. In this context, you can think of a MIDI file as a musical performance that can be paired up with an instrument.

How to use MIDI loops

  1. 1
Open Soundation and create a project
  2. 2
Go to MIDI melodies and chords in the Sound library
  3. 3
    Search and browse
  4. 4
Drag in a sound to the Arrangement area
  5. 5
    Change the Virtual instrument

Chord progressions

In Recommended sounds in the Sound library, you can find a curated MIDI chord pack called MIDI chord progressions. This MIDI pack is filled with chord progressions in different genres like EDM, trap, lo-fi, and pop. Use the basic chords if you want a simple starting point that you can change to your liking. Use the color chords for a more complex sound with 7th, 9th, and suspended chords.

Filter

To narrow down your search and find exactly what you’re looking for, try using the Filter by clicking on the filter icon next to the Search bar. You can filter the same way as with Loops and samples — by the key, tempo, genre, and instrument. However, the key, tempo, and instrument are completely changeable with MIDI loops.

Tags

Underneath each MIDI loop, you can see the instrument, genre, tempo, and key. The star tag tells you the plan you need to use it.

Favorites

You can save the sounds to your Favorites by clicking on the heart icon to the right of it. These sounds will be collected in the Favorites tab in the Sound library.

Preview

Preview the sound by clicking on it, and click it again to stop the preview. You can also control the playback, choose to hear it repetitively, or disable autoplay from the toolbar below.
