I'm not an idiot. I just make odd music sometimes. And the heavy gritty part IS the melody. *scoughs and flips hair arrogantly*
Kidding.
But just wanted to clear that up
I absolutely enjoy where this is going. Maybe make the heavy gritty sound lower in volume (perhaps just slightly) so we can hear that melodic theme you have built. Try experimenting with variations on the theme, breaks, bringing the theme back unexpectedly, and ending with something strong. Many songs will have a 1st theme, let's call it "A", then change it up and the new theme is "B." Try to make a song that is ABA or ABACA, but keep re-introducing something. It is the soul of the song, your melody is that soul. Check out my song Jamalama to get a feel for ABACBA.
