The chords aren't "completely different" just because they do the half steps in their chords and you don't, if you submitted your song to a remix contest of the snail house song I'm pretty sure people would look at the differences and assume your take on the song was creative and want to give you a prize. Also wdym "type"? Do you mean genre? I imagine you don't because I'm sure you know that changing the genre of a song for a remix song is completely acceptable
