Using the phaser effect

A phaser takes the input signal and splits it into two channels and either slightly delay, or phase shift, one channel creating a moving comb filter effect. The phase shift is modulated by an LFO to create a characteristic whooshing effect, which can be synced to the tempo of your song!

How to use Phaser in Soundation

Quick phasing [Beginner]

The quickest way to add phasing to your audio is by using one of the presets in the Soundation studio.

    Open Soundation and create a project

    Double-click the channel to which you want to apply the Phaser, this will open up the bottom panel.

    Press "+ Add effect" and select Phaser in the drop-down menu.

    In the upper right corner, you can now select one of the pre-made settings.

Feedback governs how much of the delayed/phase-shifted signal is routed back through that channel thereby accentuating the comb filter effect.


Rate governs the speed of the sweep.


Depth governs how low in the frequency spectrum the sweep should affect the signal.


Color changes the perceived tone of the generated effect.


Dry governs loudness of the original sound, Wet governs loudness of the phaser.

Automate the phaser effect [Pro]

Any of the parameters of the phaser can be automated for astonishing sound effects.

    Click "+ Add Effect" in the bottom panel on any Audio or Instrument channel and choose the Phaser.

    Press the Automation drop down on the channel and select the parameter you want to automate. If you can’t see it, make sure your vertical zoom is zoomed out far enough. TIP! Keyboard shortcut: A

    A line representing the value of the parameter appears. Draw dots on it to control how it changes over time.
