A couple years ago I was asked by Future Music Magazine to duplicate the beat to "Single Ladies" by Beyonce for their "sound a like" series. The orignal track was produced by Red Zone, the Atlanta based production team of Chris Stewart, Kuk Harrell, and Terius Nash. It´s a little known fact that many of today´s hip hop rhythms, especially those from the south, are influenced by marching drum line beats, and “Single Ladies” is a good example. The basic rhythm for the song is an old New Orleans, second line marching band groove that is played a lot as “fight songs” at college football games.
