But the grandson of a Cuban born balladeer, and his 5 octave soprano wife would be come a multi-instrumentalist, band leader, and eventually an award-winning musical director. Born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland, Allen trained in music and the theatre arts at Arena Players, Inc. under the advisement of his mother (also a classically trained and locally renowned soprano and pianist). It was this training that would prepare "Bugs" for his eventual association with television producer and award-winning playwright Michael Ajakwe with whom he would serve as musical director for two of Ajakwe's hit stage plays. "You're All I Need to Get By" (Allen's debut as a musical director), and "If You Don't Believe..." for which Scott won 2005's N.A.A.C.P. Theatre Award for Best Musical Director, the sole trophy of the show's eight nominations.
