Outside The Block Arts is an afterschool program founded by Dameta Skinner. It provides diversified and quality programming which integrates mentorship, education, arts, and leadership. In this program we identify this model as the M.E.A.L. structure. Today, children are bombarded and consumed with so many negative images within their day to day routines. Unfortunately, these images seem to perpetuate the negative views that they have towards, self, school, and community. Outside the Block Ats uses the M.E.A.L. structure to counteract these negative views with positive ones. This structure gives students the sustenance they need in order to reach success. Its intent is to use art as a catalyst to increase interest in academics and leadership while building; bridges between youth and their communities. This program services inner-city youth, grades K-12 in the Pittsburgh area. Currently it has partnerships with community organizations and Pittsburgh Public School District.
