Music Theory
HERE IS A .SNG FILE WITH A SHORT CHILLOUT IDEA IN IT https://www.mediafire.com/download/dbvjymvbqt3xr7u/Chilled_song_for_you_guys_to_get_ideas_from.sng HERE IS A .SNG FOR A DNB DRUM BEAT https://www.mediafire.com/download/6d61bs9aclzkbn9/DnB_beat.sng It has come to my attention that many people on soundation don't have a basic understanding of music theory and subsequently some of them find it hard to make there own loops, stay in a key and make nice sounding melodies. I intend to change that by helping those people get to grips with the basics, I will also be giving a few tips targeted at those who already have a good understanding and have to help really improve there musical depth, such as some really neat key changes (Key changes are barely used on soundation), chromaticism, blues notes, extended chords, countermelodies and many more, NEW!!!!: KRackEd EkHo had the idea of having a communal account so people can see the ideas of music theory for themselves as well as getting useful ideas. the user name is 'DusksMusicTheoryProgram@gmail.com' and the password is 'duskmusicuk' feel free to add new projects and test your ideas for others to see, I'll be putting a few things up for others to use and get ideas from. the only things you cannot do is delete projects, change the password or do anything on the community with this account, this account is purely for use in the studio. if anyone does otherwise the account will be shut down, so please obey by the rules. The Basics: there are 12 notes on the key board A, A-sharp/B-flat, B, C, C-sharp/D-flat, D, D-sharp/E-flat, E, F, F-sharp/G-flat, G, G-sharp/A-flat, check the link to see how these relate to the piano roll https://www.ehowtoplaypiano.com/piano-lessons/piano-notes-for-songs/ ...but you only use 7 at a time because there are only seven in each key, e.g. C,D,E,F,G,A,B,(C) an octave is C1 to C2 as C2 is the 8th note from C1 (as there are seven in the scale) The gap between to note directly adjacent to each other (e.g. B and C or D and D-sharp) is called a semitone, 2 semitones are called a tone (e.g. the gap between C and D is a tone, check the piano roll or link to see for yourself) Major Keys: the pattern of these tones and semitones for a major scale is T,T,S,T,T,T,S (e.g. C,D,E,F,G,A,B,(C) for C major or F,G,A,B-flat,C,D,E, for F major you simply pick a major key and to work out the scale for that key you use the pattern T,T,S,T,T,T,S to find all the notes. Minor Keys: For a natural minor Key the pattern is T,S,T,T,S,T,T but for a harmonic minor the pattern is T,S,T,T,S,T+S,S (mess around and see which you prefer), so an A (natural) minor scale would be A,B,C,D,E,F,G,(A) an A (harmonic) minor would be A,B,C,D,E,F,G-sharp,(A). check this site for more https://www.loopblog.net/tutorials/music-theory-tutorials/understanding-basic-scales-more-loop-fun/ or https://www.music-tutors-uk.com/Theory/scales.html Basic chords: the most common chord is a triad, it has 3 notes and the have intervals of thirds (in others words they have one note in between them (from the scale of the key), e.g. in C major the notes of the scale are C,D,E,F,G,A,B so a third would be C to E or D to F) in this clip, the chord C major is played first, the first note is C, the next note is E as it is a third away (one note in between), then a G is the next as it is a third away from E this gives you C,E,G and this is how you make triads. check this clip and my comments at the beginning for a proper lesson on chords https://soundation.com/user/duskmusicuk/track/the-basics-of-chords also check these clips for more on scales and chord sequences (more to come) https://soundation.com/user/duskmusicuk/track/simple-chord-sequence-in-c-major-sequence-i-v-vi-iv-1-5-6-4 https://soundation.com/user/duskmusicuk/track/harmonic-minor-scales-a-minor-to-d-minor-pattern-t-s-t-t-t-s-s https://soundation.com/user/duskmusicuk/track/major-scales-c-major-to-f-major-pattern-t-t-s-t-t-t-s

Beta Studio Test
Hi Testers, thank you for participating in a beta test of our new Studio! What's the plan? We will open this group for at least a month for all testers to post bug reports and general feedback. Your insights will provide invaluable assistance in the fine-tuning of our studio before its official release in the coming months. What's new in the Studio? We've made major changes from an architecture point of view so our new Studio has gained a major performance boost. More specifically, the new Studio is based on WebAssembly and is using components that are completely new in a browser. This helps us build a more powerful and stable Studio which in turn lets you create more demanding projects. While there are no new features added to the new Studio, this will facilitate any further improvements and added features in the future! What should I do? Make as many tracks as possible using our beta Studio: https://beta-studio.soundation.com (Important: Use this link only) on Chrome version 70. If you find any bugs in the process, please comment in this group with the information: What I did, what went wrong, what I expected + Operating system + Studio and Engine version Is there anything I should be aware of? Yes. Please find below more info on buffer size/latency and some known issues: 1. Buffer size vs. latency • Increasing buffer size makes the Studio work more fluently, with less risk of glitches but with cost in latency (recommended for projects with long effect filter chains and/or many SendTo effect instances). • Decreasing buffer size makes the Studio work with smaller latency but with cost in risk of glitches and fluency (recommended for simpler projects with shorten effect filter chains). Recommended buffer size is 512 or 1024. • In case of complex projects and need of short latency, try to mute as many those channels which has the longest effect filter chains and then decrease buffer size to 256, 512. 2. Known bugs raised by testers (work in progress): • Some presets of WubMachine (using Retrigger) differs in the beta studio • The studio stops responding when used for a long time 3. Current Studio version 2.0.1 Engine version 1.7.1 4. Improvements added • Import of flac • Import of mp4 (including import of the AAC coded audio track from video mp4 file) • Option to enable Turbo Mode to maximize CPU usage What will I get? In return for your help in scrutinizing our new Studio, you will get one item from our sound shop for free at the end of the testing period. We really appreciate your time and feedback. If you have any questions feel free to post here. Now, have fun with our new Studio! Team Soundation 👉 Access the beta Studio here: https://beta-studio.soundation.com

Christmas contest
Christmas is finally over!Thank you for all your submissions! Excuse the delayed announcement. Unfortunately, there were a lot of songs that weren't made using Soundation or couldn't be verified so some of the runner-ups were disqualified.Congratulations to the winners, expect a magic upgrade and a DM.Winners1st placeHyphen - Jingle Bells remixHyphen was a bit OP in this contest, he’s had his share of features and it’s surprising he’s still squeezing things out on a free account. It’s time bro. Very smooth production and a nice play on the jingle bells melody. 2nd placeJOBEATZ2 - Carol of the beatz Hard trap beat with some Xmas elements in it, the mix is a bit off and it could need some more dynamics and switch-ups, but all in all, well played. 3rd placeXASTOLIAM - ChroniclesVery well-arranged and full-bodied production. It would have landed second place if it had some Christmas in it. Mix tip: tune your compression wisely, dial it back a little bit and don’t go ham on it all the way through - the end result will sound a lot more professional. Thanks Moon for putting this together!

Featured
Hey guys, I just made this group for people to post songs to gain popularity. There is also a competition for a feature with a topic. You don't have to do the topic but you can if you want to. Also please subscribe to my YouTube channel @JosHakam. So how it's going to work is when I feel like it, I will listen to the songs in this group and choose my 3 favorite recent ones... There is no genre but know that I enjoy EDM, Rap, and groovy beats... Oh and don't forget drums with the high EQ turned down, those get me.

Start from Scratch Challenge - Future Perfect This month, Soundation invites you to make music for the future. As 2018 is drawing to a close, let's imagine what the future will hold for the music world. Will algorave, where live coders make music on the go, take over the rave scene? Will the rise of AI-generated music make machines your best collaborators? Will this fascination with machine learning and algorithms, from a generative music player to voice-reactive sound sculptures, push the boundaries of music creation and redefine the meaning of music? Or is it too utopian a vision? You tell us. Grab your Alexa and submit an original track based on a theme of Future Perfect before the deadline (16 January 2019, 23:00 CET) and 3 winners – users with the most unique, creative and theme-relevant track – will get to pick any 3 items from our Sound Shop and have their tracks published on our social media. How to enter the challenge: Publish the track and post it in this group Publish the track on your social media and tag #soundation Terms: The track has to be made using Soundation (Yes we check!) Each member can submit one track Please follow our Community Guidelines. Failure to do so will result in a ban. Give us a futuristic take on your favourite genre and ask your Siri to set a reminder before the deadline. We'll announce the winner in a month! P.S. For winners of our previous challenge, take a look at our Facebook page. Updated: 19 December 2018
Riddim
Hello my name is P!X3L_PuNk. I produce electronic music on soundation, it would be great if you only posted dub or riddim on this group for it would serve no purpose if you just promoted other music on this group.
Shout Outs
Want to give someone a high-five for making progress on their music production journey? Care to give us tips on feature-worthy songs that fall off our radar? Or perhaps give a shout out to some submissions that don't make it to the top of our competitions? Here's a group for a virtual pat on the back and all things wholesome. Post links to tracks or users on the comment section below. We might consider featuring tracks recommended here on top of the tracks posted in "Share Your Sounds" (#music genre) groups on the Community.
