Mixing Tips & Tricks

General Tips ‘N’ Trickz

We are releasing a new BETA Chrome Studio that is focused on bringing more stability into the Studio.

Most likely the biggest improvement in stability will be for users that have versatile projects spanning over many channels
with lots of effects etc. We would be very happy if you take it for a test drive and report back any problems or failures
that appear (any other observations are also welcome) to beta@soundation.com (no bug reports in the comments thanks)

Bonus points for replication steps of a problem.

@Greg, Soundation sure has gotten more powerful since it's release nearly two years ago. I think at least having a good CPU would give you better performance. Good CPU + a good browser (Safari seems to handle Soundation best for me) and it should be fine. i've also discovered higher buffer sizes help reduce CPU strain but you get more of a delay (but I learned that anyway >_> ). But i think the soundation crew are probably doing what they can.

Here are the things I would love to see: a parametric eq, a compressor with a sidechain ability, an LFO that can be linked to different parameters (don't mind if in Wubmachine or new effect or instrument), synths to all have a glide ability, synths to have a poly/mono/legato option with the ability to change the number of voices and whether or not to have 'unison', a pitch shifter so we can mess around with the pitch of a sample while keeping it's length the same. Of course most of these are probably a bit ambitious these are just the things that, when I make music, I wish soundation had.

Plus, with all of instruments, effects, and loops that take time to load (an especially long time for some loops), Soundation is already starting to max out of its own platform... which begs the question, why Flash over the others, like Shockwave, HTML5, or Java? Isn't Shockwave a little more versatile?

Actually, now that I think of it, all the aesthetic things being suggested for Soundation, like a visualizer, might not be a good idea, only because Soundation already maxes out CPU pretty easily because it's being run inside another program that already takes up some well-deserved CPU from the Studio. FL Studio has that problem because it's got so much going on with plugins, yet it's so heavy on visuals. I think Soundation should stick with a minimal yet very functional feel and build so that all of that power and memory from your computer can be used to Soundation's advantage.

Are there any plans for adding a dB meter to soundation as that would probably be a much easier way to check your sound levels that the tiny bars at the bottom of the screen.

Hey Andreas, do you think you could look at my Moon of Dreams remix song file on my account? For some reason, loading it up fails in odd ways, and it seems to be different every time. The VIs sometimes kill the sound functionality, as well. All my other tracks work great, but this specific one has huge problems that I can't figure out. :/

@MΛ➩ŁΔCҚY. You can't even imagine the weird sounds I force on my family on a daily basis. It's tough living with a sound geek.
